Well, you've found them. Prior to turning freelance, I was an in-house copywriter for marketing agencies ranging from McCann Erickson and J. Walter Thompson to EHS Brann Direct Marketing. I've also worked for the marketing department of Hewlett Packard.
Rewinding further, I took an MA in Marketing at the University of Lancaster, to add to my B.Sc from the University of Bradford. Which means marketing is in my blood.
And what, exactly, does all this trumpet blowing mean to you?
Essentially, my agency and ‘client-side' experience means that I'm likely to be familiar with your culture. While my advertising career means I understand the constraints smaller business are working under.
It's significant that I also wear a journalist's hat. In fact, I pen a regular column in a magazine. I believe this is invaluable experience, as on the web the edges between ‘pure' marketing copywriting and journalism grow increasingly blurred. In general, the net is about information rather than out and out ‘selling' - people don't go online for that. Good online copywriting means a more subtle approach, supported by meaty content.
Just like this site.
And who have I worked for?
